Tangled Paper is subjected to pressurized (40-60psi) air and spray during painting and finishing and is more sturdy than one would expect. Still, do handle with care.
Preventative Care
- Please handle the painting by the back of the painting as much as possible. Oil from skin is known to damage artworks.
- All light, especially sunlight, is known to degrade most indoor paintings. Usually this means colors fade or paper becomes brittle.
- Humidity is known to degrade most paintings. It may be risky to keep the artwork in a bathroom or above a large fish tank, humidifier, or cooking areas. Moisture could cause mold, or warping of the sculpture.
- This piece features high quality materials, including AP certified paints that are water-resistant and highly pigmented.
- Your piece may feature genuine copper or silver foil which is protected by a coating, but may patina where the coating is thin or when exposed to excessive heat and moisture. Gold foil used is generally pure and is more resistant to aging.
To Dust / Clean
- Follow the instructions on a compressed air product, such as canisters sold for cleaning keyboards.
- Usually this means holding the can 8 to 12 inches away from the painting, and spraying with short bursts with an upright can.
- Take care not to spray for long periods or hold the can at an angle, as that can introduce moisture to the spray. Moisture damages artwork.
- Frequency of dusting will depend on your environment. An air filter / purifier will remove dust from the air and decrease the available dust to settle on artwork. Being near a freeway increases dust.
- If absolutely necessary, lightly moisten a lint-free cloth (such as an eyeglasses cloth) to gently remove smudges or grime. Use water, only.
- If necessary, the painting can be gently reshaped with clean fingers. If more reshaping is needed, try a very fine mist of water before attempting to adjust the paper folds. Work slowly and patiently and use as little water as possible.
Repairs
Tangled Paper represents many themes, including the compression of time into space. Therefore, if the Tangled Paper changes over time, due to damage or accidents, the artist suggests seeing this entropy as a meaningful part of the work’s story.
If, however, unacceptable damage occurs, please don’t hesitate to contact the artist for solutions.
